Equity Crowdfunding: Will Non-Accredited Investors Really Expand Investment Capital?

Since the signing of the Jobs Act in April 2012, momentum has been building for national crowdfunding initiatives to both accredited and non-accredited investors. Accredited investors have been introduced to new dealflow through “506 Reg D” websites they would have rarely been exposed to before due to 80-year-old securities laws.

Angel networks have gone national, traditional VC’s have gone up-market to more mature PE plays, and investors are building their individual online brand to show individual leadership in their picks. The law also opened the door to non-accredited investors, but their opportunity is still waiting in the wings while the SEC and FINRA finalize rules for their participation. The real question is whether non-accredited investors will be able to move the needle when they are allowed to participate.

This talk will provide insight on the actual state of non-accredited investor finances and shed light on the problems and opportunities that lie ahead of them. Non-accredited investors are still waiting for the Jobs Act rules to be finalized by the SEC and FINRA in order to be able to invest.

Takeaways:
-How much will non-accredited investors be able to invest?
-Is it a good idea for non-accredited investors to participate in seed round investments?
